How We Test Every Product
Every KOS superfood is independently tested for purity, potency, and heavy metals. Our testing program covers both incoming raw materials and finished products, conducted at independent, ISO 17025-accredited laboratories using analytical methods including mass spectrometry and chromatography.
We test for heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), microbial contaminants, pesticide residues, and label accuracy.
Our dedicated Quality Control department follows testing protocols informed by standards from the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Union (EU), the Canadian NNHPD, U.S. FDA tolerable daily intake guidelines, USP, and EPA drinking water standards.
Certifications vary by product line:
- USDA Organic (CCOF certified)
Plant protein, superfood blends, and single-ingredient powders. - Non-GMO Project Verified
Plant protein, superfood blends, single-ingredient powders, hydration, and supplements. - Kosher (cRc certified)
Select superfood blends and single-ingredient powders.
See individual product pages for the specific certifications each product carries. All KOS products are manufactured in cGMP-audited, FDA-registered facilities.

Prop 65 & Safety
Frequently Asked Questions
California Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings if their products expose Californians to any of over 900 chemicals known to pose certain health risks, including lead. Products sold in California that may exceed Prop 65 levels must include a warning label. For lead, the Prop 65 limit is 0.5 micrograms per daily serving, unless higher levels are deemed naturally occurring.
For more information for California residents, visit p65warnings.ca.gov.
Many whole-food and plant-based ingredients naturally contain trace amounts of substances on the Prop 65 list. Plants naturally absorb trace elements, including metals, from the soil in which they grow - whether the soil is certified organic or conventional.
To put this in context: many everyday foods - including turnips, apples, artichokes, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, spinach, brown rice, and almonds - naturally contain lead at levels above the Prop 65 limit of 0.5 micrograms. Studies conducted by the State of California on soil from 70 locations found that vegetables typically contain four times the lead limit set by Prop 65. You won't see Prop 65 labels on fresh produce because these levels are legally recognized as naturally occurring.
A Prop 65 warning does not mean a product is unsafe - it reflects California's strict labeling requirements, which have some of the lowest thresholds in the world.
Every KOS product is third-party tested to confirm that heavy metal and contaminant levels fall within safe limits established by the FDA, USP, WHO, EU, and other international regulatory bodies. Our testing standards meet or exceed regulatory requirements. You can look up the Certificate of Analysis for your specific product batch using the tool on this page.

Third-party testing means an independent laboratory - not KOS itself - conducts the analysis. This eliminates bias and ensures objective results. Our testing partners hold ISO 17025 accreditation, the international standard for laboratory competence.
The lot number is printed on the bottom or side of your container, usually starting with a letter followed by numbers (e.g., V25175012). The UPC barcode is on the product label - you only need the last 6 digits for our COA lookup tool.
